Tinubu makes Time’s list of 100 most influential people in 2023

TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2023 includes Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has been named as one of the influential individuals. The list was released on Thursday, April 13, 2023, and Tinubu was described as a longtime political power broker who helped Nigeria restore democracy in 1999 after fighting military rule. According to TIME magazine, Tinubu won the presidential election with the ruling All Progressives Congress party in a fraught election and by a slim margin over Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. His win came amidst allegations of intimidation and vote rigging, and the outcome of the ballot is being challenged in court. Tinubu now faces a litany of crises in a fractured nation, including deep-rooted corruption, religious insurgencies, and shortages of cash, fuel, and power in a crumbling economy. However, in his acceptance speech, he said that Nigeria is one country, and they must build it together. The list also includes other influential individuals such as US President Joe Biden, King Charles III, Elon Musk, Beyonce, and Angela Bassett, among others.
