"Statement by Lamidi Apapa: I am currently the Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party with the Support of the Obedients"
Lamidi Apapa maintains that he is the acting National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) and has the support of the party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi's followers, also known as "Obidients". Despite the disavowal of the factional leadership by the party's state chairmen in all 36 states of the country, Apapa insists that he is the legitimate leader of the LP. He refutes allegations that he is being sponsored to destabilize the party, stating that his actions are in compliance with a court order that restrained four national officers, including Julius Abure, from parading themselves as such. According to Apapa, seven members of the LP National Working Committee voted for him as the acting chairman of the party. He claims to have the backing of the "Obidients", who are part of Obi's growing support base, and dismisses criticisms from the movement as based on ignorance of the situation.
