Revelation made by an aide of President Buhari, a number of children are not attending school due to their inability to pay a levy of N80.

During a recent interview with Channels Television, Maryam Uwais,

the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Investments, disclosed that some children in Northern Nigeria are unable to attend school due to a small levy of just 80 Naira. Uwais went on to cite Nigeria's growing population as a contributing factor to the country's staggering figure of 20 million out-of-school children, a statistic that places Nigeria, India, and Pakistan at the top of the global rankings for out-of-school children aged 6 to 18, according to data from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Uwais stressed that state governments must take on greater responsibility in reducing the number of out-of-school children, and suggested that gathering feedback from affected communities could help identify and address hidden levies or other issues preventing children from attending school.
