Four Men Remanded in Benue State for Allegedly Dismembering a Hunchback Man: Court Orders Detention and Adjourns Case till May 25, 2023
Four men, including a Health Department staff, have been ordered to be remanded in the Federal Maximum Correctional Centre Makurdi by a Magistrates’ Court in Makurdi, Benue State. The men, Christopher Shimayina, Mathew Nono, Henry Bee and Vincent Shayenge, are charged with criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, culpable homicide, and illegal possession of firearms. Magistrate Kadoom Gbasha did not take their plea due to want of jurisdiction.
The case was transferred from the Naka Divisional Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Makurdi, after a team of detectives discovered a dismembered corpse of a hunchback in a black sack by the banks of the Naka earth Dam. The victim was later identified as Msuega Ababa of Tse-Akaa Vengav, Avihijime Council Ward of Gwer West LGA.
Police prosecutor Insp Joshua Anyuabagu stated that Bee had the deceased's cell phone and
took the investigators to Shimayina's house, where the victim was killed. Two white candles, two small white eggs, two white handkerchiefs, a locally made pistol, and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered from Shimayina. The case has been adjourned until May 25, 2023, for further mention as the investigation is still ongoing. The offence contravenes the provisions of sections 97 and 222 of the Penal code law of Benue State 2004, Section 11(2) of Abduction, Hostage Taking, Kidnapping, Secret Cut and Similar Prohibition Law of Benue State 2017, and Section 3(1) of the Robbery and Fire Arms Special Provision Act, 2004.
