"Men Discuss Landlords Rejecting Single Male Tenants in Abuja: Personal Experiences Shared"

Kate Bassey, a Nigerian businesswoman, has taken to Facebook to reveal that single men are reportedly facing discrimination when it comes to renting housing in Abuja. Her post on April 11, 2023, came after she tried and failed to find an apartment for her brother. According to her, some of the landlords she spoke to were unfavourable towards single men in Abuja. She recounted that some landlords complained about single men having relationships with their wives, girlfriends, and even sugar mummies who pay the rent. Collaborating her statement, Emeka Ononiwu said that two landlords informed him that they do not want single men as tenants. Benedict Uzoma also shared his experience, stating that a landlord told him that he has three daughters. Kate explained that she took full responsibility for her brother and even spoke to some of the landlords over the phone and met two of them physically, but they refused to shift grounds. This discriminatory attitude towards single men seeking rental housing in Abuja is concerning and needs to be addressed.
