Dalai Lama Apologizes for Video of Him Asking a Boy to Suck His Tongue, Sparking Outrage among Viewers
The Dalai Lama Apologizes for Kissing Child and Asking Him to "Suck My Tongue"
The Dalai Lama has issued an apology after a video of him kissing a child on the lips and then asking the child to "suck my tongue" went viral on social media. The incident occurred during an event in the Indian city of Dharamshala in February, and the video sparked criticism from many viewers.
In a statement released on Monday, April 10th, the Dalai Lama's office apologized to the boy and his family, as well as to his followers around the world. The statement explained that the spiritual leader often teases people in an "innocent and playful way," even in public and before cameras. However, it also acknowledged that the Dalai Lama regretted the incident and the hurt it may have caused.
During the event, which was organized by the M3M Foundation, a philanthropic arm of an Indian real estate company, the boy approached the Nobel Peace Prize winner and asked if he could hug him. The Dalai Lama then invited the boy on stage and hugged and kissed him on the cheek. He then kissed the boy on the lips and asked him to "suck my tongue."
The incident has raised questions about appropriate behavior towards children, even in a playful context. The Dalai Lama's apology has been widely reported in the media and is seen as an attempt to address the controversy surrounding the incident.
