Two masked men (pictured) brandishing Kalashnikovs stormed the headquarters of French satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo, this afternoon and opened fire on staff , killing 12 people and wounding 10, including reporters, administrative staff and two police police officers. According to local media reports, some witnesses claimed that the attackers stalked the building for a few minutes, asking for people that work at the magazine by name before opening fire, and killing the mag's editor and cartoonist while they were having their editorial meeting. The attack is supposedly in revenge for the magazine's mockery of the Holy Prophet Mohammed in a cartoon. A journalist with Europe1 News said several men in black were heard shouting 'the Prophet has been avenged', after the mass shooting. Police chased the attacker but the men managed to escape in a car they hijacked. The attackers are still on the loose. See photos after the cut...

A senior secondary school form one (SS1) student of Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Jalingo, was on Monday apprehended for being in possession of two grenades. The student, simply identified as Blessing, was apprehended by the school's security guards who were conducting checks on the students luggage following their resumption for the second term. According to Thisday ,In an attempt to smuggle the bombs into the school, Blessing, who joined the school last September , concealed the bombs inside gari and it took the vigilance of the security men to detect them.

Governor of Niger state, Aliyu Babangida says that one has to tell lies to survive in the political scene of today, adding that there is no morality in politics. He says if anyone wants to pursue morality, they should go and become Imams or Pastors. The Governor stated this while inaugurating the PDP guber campaign committee in Minna the state capital yesterday January 5th. "If you cannot lie, get out of politics. Anything you are involved in has its own rule. You are in politics to win, win first and let other things follow. Don’t be the one crying louder; lest you will be the one ‎they will take to court. If you are talking of honesty or morals, go and become an Imam or pastor. Politics cannot be the way it used to be.

Olawumi Oladayo (25) and Chibuzor Ekesi (22) have been arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ibadan, in Oyo State Police Command during an attempt to use fake bank transaction to purchase a car. Crime Reports learnt that the two suspects went to a car stand at Ring Road area of Ibadan at about 11.30 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014 to negotiate the cost of a Crosstour car. According to the car dealer (names withheld ) Oladayo and Ekesi said they wanted to purchase the car on behalf of their father. The dealer said:

A Lieutenant Colonel of the Nigerian Army, Kingsley Iberi, is currently down with stroke and paralysis after 14 years of waiting for his entitlements which have not come. Punch Metro learnt that 63-year-old Iberi, who hails from Igbanke, Edo State, joined the army in January 1972 as a Cadet Officer, having finished from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna State. His first place of posting was 24 Infantry Battalion in Gboko, Benue State.

According to a report by  PM News , a Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has quashed the 22-count charge brought against the former Managing Director of Intercontinental Bank Plc, Dr. Erastus Akingbola by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). A suicide bomber was the only one to die in a failed attempt to attack the Evangelical Church of West Africa, ECWA (pictured above), at Tudunwada in Gombe state yesterday January 1st. 203 Nigerian soldiers have allegedly been dismissed by the Nigerian military over allegations of disobeying a direct order from their commanding officer to engage Boko Haram members and demanding for support equipment. The soldiers and their families are said to have been evicted from the barracks after a court martial that sat on December 24th night found them guilty of disobeying superior authority.
